Menopause and Pelvic Health in Albuquerque

We talk a lot about how much a woman's body changes during pregnancy, and we should. But the changes of perimenopause and menopause are just as real, and for many women they hit even harder. Shifting hormones affect your muscles, bones, bladder, pelvic floor, sleep, mood and how you feel in your own body. You deserve support through this season too.

Sound familiar?

  • Losing strength, or feeling less confident in your body than you used to

  • New aches in your back, hips or joints

  • Dryness, tightness or pain that makes sex uncomfortable

  • Needing to go more often, or waking up at night to use the bathroom

  • New pressure or heaviness in your pelvis

  • Leaking when you cough, sneeze or exercise

How physical therapy helps

As estrogen declines, the muscles and tissues of the pelvic floor can become weaker, thinner and less elastic, and overall muscle and bone strength can decline too. Physical therapy helps you stay ahead of those changes. We rebuild pelvic floor strength and coordination, ease pain and tightness with hands-on treatment, and give you a strength plan that supports your bones, muscles and joints, so you can keep doing what you love with confidence.

Why starting early matters

The best time to start is in perimenopause or the early years of menopause, before symptoms become your new normal. Learning how to keep your pelvic floor and body strong now can help reduce unwanted changes and symptoms down the road. That said, it's never too late. Women see real improvement at every age.

What to expect

Your first visit is a one-on-one evaluation. We'll talk through your symptoms, health history and goals, then look at how your breathing, posture, core, hips and pelvic floor work together. With your consent, this may include an internal pelvic exam, which is always optional. You'll leave with a clear plan and a few strategies to start right away.

Common questions

Isn't this just a normal part of aging? Yes, menopause is a natural part of life. But normal doesn't mean you have to live with uncomfortable symptoms, and your body still needs care. Physical therapy helps you stay strong, comfortable and confident so you can age gracefully and keep doing the things you love.

Do I need to wait until I have symptoms? No, and it's better not to. Coming in during perimenopause or early menopause lets us build strength in your pelvic floor, bones and muscles before problems start, so you can protect your overall health and quality of life for years to come.

Can PT work alongside hormone therapy? Absolutely. Physical therapy works well alongside hormone therapy and other menopause care, and with your permission, I'm happy to coordinate with your provider.
